GCFL Founder and League Commissioner Shawn “FUDGE” Greene started playing fantasy sports since 1998, on Yahoo.com and Excite.com (now defunct). Prior to that, he played with various people offline, the old fashion way – on paper, using statistics in various weekly sports publications, such as The Sporting News.
Shawn began under the Yahoo ID “shawnpgreene” which is no longer used for previously ran leagues. We began the first God Chasers Sports leagues in 2000 Yahoo! starting out with a simple local Tampa Bay, Florida fantasy football league in a 10 team league, made up of church members, a family and other Christian friends in the area. We expanded in 2002 to Baseball and have built a solid community of over 300 participants ever since, including other Yahoo! fantasy sports, like, Golf, Auto Racing, Soccer, Basketball, Hockey, and others. Yahoo has since reduced the available platforms, eliminating the availability of Auto Racing and Golf. The expansion started under more Yahoo IDs, such as “godchaserssports” “gcsportscommish” and the current long-time “dimedianet.”
We are entering our 24th year participating in these online games and have shown no signs of slowing down. In 2021, we created a new set of leagues under the Yahoo ID “gcsports2000” with 5 new GCFL leagues. Football is indeed the most popular sport in our history, so we cast our nets to expand, once again. We have had a few gaps of competition over the years in various leagues, but have rebounded in stellar fashion. We look forward to competing with you this year and, for our newcomers, connecting with you in future leagues.
